Vancouver Facial: Glycolic Peel Benefits

Have you ever wondered what a peel is all about? I’m sure for many people it conjures up gory images of exposed skin and bed rest. Fortunately, it’s really not that scary and as those who’ve had a peel can attest, there are some very nice benefits.

That being said, it’s not necessarily a walk in the park to get a peel. If you’re thinking of coming in for a treatment of pure relaxation, then you might want to take a pass on this power-packed step. But, if you’re looking for a treatment that will give you longer lasting results for your skin, then it’s DEFINITELY worth enduring very mild discomfort for the outcome. By mild, I mean a fairly intense feeling feeling of pins and needles and itching. All of which only lasts for a matter of 1-5 minutes, depending on your skin’s tolerance.

Glycolic peels at therapeutic levels (20% and up) work by loosening surface skin cells, all the way to the innermost layer of the epidermis. By stimulating this layer, the skin renewal process is accelerated, thus promoting a thicker epidermis (this tends to become thinner with age) as well as the creation of new dermal collagen (IE, firmer skin). This will cause skin shrinkage which helps to soften the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. By normalizing skin renewal,  comedones (blackheads) are reduced and pores are refined. Glycolic acid also helps to restore the skin’s barrier function, enhancing the skin’s hydration. Studies have also shown that glycolic acid can reduce hyperpigmentation in the skin- my experience with this however, is that it does need to be paired with a topical brightening regime such as Dermalogica’s Chromawhite system.

A series of peels can do wonders for your skin. If you’re feeling that your skin needs a pick me up- why not book in every two weeks for six weeks and give your skin a new lease on life?

Glycolic peels can be done in a quick window of time- just 30 minutes out of your day for a Micro-Zone Flash Exfoliation treatment for $70, or alternatively, book a Customized Spruce Facial with a glycolic peel- this full treatment  includes extraction work, massage, serums and a mask for $120. I’ve had many clients alternate between Micro-Zone treatments and longer treatments to suit their needs.

Check out our glycolic peel guidelines to learn more, or book in for a FaceMapping consultation to see if this treatment is for you.

So, as you can see, there really isn’t anything scary about peels- unexfoliated skin on the other hand- that is what is truly scary :) .
