The Face Mapping Facial
The Deal: Developed by U.S. skin care line Dermalogica, Face Mapping is a technique whereby your complexion is analyzed inch by inch according to 14 distinct zones.
The Drill: Informed by Eastern medicine and Western science, an esthetician uses touch to detect tiny bumps and hot spots invisible to the eye. Rather than blaming skin ailments solely on using the wrong products, this treatment focuses on health concerns that show up in the skin. Dry temples indicate long-term stress, whereas short-term stress shows up in the jawline. Breakout below the right corner of your mouth? You’re ovulating on that side. A congested forehead means digestive problems, and redness between your eyes (the “wine and dine” zone) shows you’ve been indulging. Once skin issues are marked on a face map (yes, it will look like the Rockies), you receive a customized skin treatment addressing areas of concern. Your progress is charted, so the next time, with any luck, your face map will look like the Prairies.
The Details: $85 for 60 minutes, at Spruce Body Lab (1128 Richards St., Vancouver, 604-683-3220, sprucebodylab.com)
