Vancouver Spa: Halloween- Get Rid Of Wrinkles

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

It’s hard to believe that Halloween is upon us.  I’m already feeling sad that some of the trees have lost all their leaves. The vivid fall colors paired with the sounds of leaves crunching underfoot, makes the briskness in the autumn air more bearable.

I don’t personally have any plans for Halloween this year, just a nice dinner to celebrate the completion of mid-terms, so I will be out and about on the 31st previewing all the elaborate costumes.  We’re quite lucky in North America to have a day where adults get to dress up and pretend to be someone or something else for a few hours.

For those of us who are not dressing up, we still may want to put on a “new face” and scare off any wrinkles that have started to settle in.  If these ghastly furrows have out-worn their welcome, don’t worry, there are several options with which you can banish them.

  1. Injectables This is undoubtedly the quickest and easiest method to create a more youthful appearance. A few tiny injections of either botox or a hyaluronic acid-based filler can imbue youthfulness to your appearance for four to twelve months. And if you feel like having a plumper pout while you’re at it- why not?
  2. Cosmetic Acupuncture This approach to age prevention works beyond the instant gratification of  and helps to activate your body’s natural age-fighting battalion.  Minute needles are place along expression lines and areas of concern to bring blood flow and nourishment to the skin, and connective tissues. The tiny wounds inflicted by the needles encourages the formation of collagen- all the while, you’re stimulating points corresponding to the organs of your body. Ostensibly, you’re doing your whole body a favor with this treatment.
  3. Photorejuvenation If the leopard look is not a part of your plan this Halloween and you’re looking to loose your spots, this treatment is for you. The side benefit to shedding those hyperpigmented cells is improved firmness and smoothing of fine lines.
  4. Skin Tightening This treatment is like boot camp for your skin. Infrared light builds heat in the dermal tissues of the skin, causing new collagen to be formed. The result, smoothing out of wrinkles, expression lines and facial contours without the fright-factor of a face lift.

Don’t let aging process scare you into submission- with these weapons at you’re disposal, this Halloween will have more of a Casper the Friendly Ghost feel, than that of a terrifying tribulation.

Massage Therapy Vancouver- Increase Your Energy

It seems as though as the days get shorter, I have more that I need to fit into them! The winter months can spell added work and life stresses that compound to cause low energy levels, headaches and muscular tension, insomnia and a weakened immune system.

Did you know that regular massage therapy has been shown to alleviate the aforementioned ailments?

Massage therapy does not replace regular exercise and eating well, but there is nothing that can deliver the same level of relaxation that massage therapy can.  For instance, in a yoga class, you are undoubtedly doing something good for your body by stretching your muscles, gaining strength and bringing circulation and tension relief to the muscles and connective tissue of the body. That being said, you’re actively engaging in this process; massage therapy allows you to shut off both mentally and physically. Not only are you enjoying the physiological benefits to releasing muscles tension and correcting postural alignments- massage therapy maintains your optimal energy and health.

Regular massage treatments boost your immune system through increasing the activity level of natural killer cells- which fend off viruses and abnormal cells. When your immune system is working well, you’re not dragged down by fatigue and better able to cope with daily stresses.

Those natural killer cells- yes, that is an actual scientific term- can sure come in handy these days with all the colds and flus flying around.  And with the limited daylight- I still want to feel energized and ready to take on the day, even if the sun isn’t joining me at the usual hour. So with that said, if I MUST make the time for massage, I think that I could be persuaded…

How do you manage fatigue and stress? Post your comments here…

Vancouver Hair Removal – Broad Band Light Spectrum Treatments

hirsute-sm

So, my new favorite thing NOT to do within my grooming routine is: bikini waxing, shaving plucking etc.

Yes, I know, I’m taking this blog to a whole new personal level!  But, I can’t help my enthusiasm for permanent hair reduction.  Yes, that’s right, permanent.  I can’t believe that I’ve waited this long, but what relief! I’ve had two treatments thus far and the results are superb.  It’s so refreshing to see smooth skin, free of unwanted hair and any unfortunate side effects, ie: razor burn and ingrown hairs.

I’m sure many people would agree that the ritual of hair removal is somewhat time consuming, costly and at times masochistic. Unfortunately, permanent hair reduction with broad band light technology does not come pain free, but strides in the latest technology have made for a far more comfortable treatment.  The applicator “foot-print” is chilled and can be adjusted to as low as 12 degree centigrade, keeping the skin cool and calm.  The size of the footprint is also considerably larger than with past models, so treatment time is cut down, as less pulses are needed to complete a session.

My treatments were surprisingly quick, at around 20 minutes each. I’m expecting to need about three to four treatments to complete my program. In the mean time, I have a much longer stretch in between treatments as the hair re-growth is slower in addition to being substantially reduced.

I’m definitely infatuated with this method and anxiously awaiting treatment for other “zones” of hair that are in need of annihilation! Hmm..Mexico in December?…
